Take out the 6 drafted in the last 2 drafts.... that leaves 25.

Take out the 1st round picks.. Phanuef, Erixon and Pelech and we have 22.

4 out of 22 of defense-men drafted by the Flames past the first round since 2000 have made it the NHL.

Rockets d-men drafted

#49 2003 Weber
#241 2004 Mike Card 4 NHL games
#222 2005 Kyle Cumisky 128 NHL games
#5 2008 Luke Schenn
#10 2008 Tyler Myers
#85 2008 Brandon MacMillan 171 NHL games (played D 50% of the time with the rockets)
#64 2009 Tyson Barrie
#60 2012 Damon Severson 51 NHL games
#53 2013 Madison Bowey
#139 2013 Mitch Wheaton.... missed last season due to shoulder surgeries.

So 10 Rocket d-men drafted since 2003 ..only one guy picked #241 ruled out as Not NHL material.. Also Wheaton looks to be a long shot due to injuries.

Take out the 2 1st round picks and 2 drafted in the last 2 years and 6 out of 6 made to the NHL and 5/6 will make the 100 game mark. Severson only had 51 in his rookie year as a 20 year old.

Not counting guys that got their finishing in Kelowna ... Duncan Keith and Josh Morrissey.

I really like the odds of Devante Stephens making it to the NHL just based on him developing in Kelowna. This is not be a big secret and some other GM will pick him up well before his central scouting ranking.

And how many Kelowna D-men didn't spend significant time in the NHL after playing in the dub? You make it sound like because a guy played for the Rockets, he's a sure fire NHL'er...

Please explain to me the infatuation with Stephens... Honestly, he's 161 lbs and put up 11 points in 64 games, followed by 4 points in 11 playoff games...

I'm just not understanding the hype.
