My main fear would be that the rangers have one of the best D cores in the league. Is there any normalization that needs to be applied when viewing the strong goaltending that was seen in NYR this year?
Exactly, and this relates to my griping in the "goal scoring" thread. Look at who is going to the finals - teams can win with average goalies, if the team in front of them is good enough. Hell, if the Oilers knew how to play defense, Scrivens and Fasth are probably good enough, as they were fine when playing in LA/Anaheim. The guys we had here were pretty mediocre (aside from an early stint) and we still had a huge year and beat the Canucks and their "superstar" goalie. Talbot, Lehner et al are not worth the price being asked, as the marginal improvement over what we had would me tiny/non-existent. Put Hiller behind NYR and he would be great too. There is no reason to pay anything beyond a 3rd/4th rounder for any of these guys. They are all "average" NHL goalies.
