A point that people are missing is that the Flames had a solid top 4 in 2008/09 ... they made the playoffs comfortably and were poised to make a playoff run.... but the whole 2nd line plus Regher and then Phanuef were injured.
Rather than holding their water, of resigning Aucion for 2M/yr for 2 years... he went on to phx as a playoff top 4 d-man for the next season and starting again with a healthy Regher and Phanuef they panicked.. they made a major change bringing in Bouwmeester for no good reason and everything fell apart.
At the time the biggest need was a Cammelleri/Bertuzzi replacement... but we got Bouwmeester and Nigel Dawes instead.
I really like the point where the Flames are now. Unless Gio is not coming back at 100% I don't see the need to add a big name/salary player .... until we find out about the guys we have that made such progress as a team.
If it isn't broke don't fix it.
