So Sharp would take up a roster spot but Hudler wouldn't???

The only way I think the Flames should pick up Sharp is if they trade Hudler because of his value right now. Hudler is coming off of a career year and has one more year on a very affordable contract. If the Flames keep him, they'll have to lose him next year because he'll want a better contract. If they sell high on Hudler and make out very well, then they can potentially buy low on Sharp as his replacement and at least have him under contract for one more year until a prospect is ready to take his spot then they can cut Sharp loose too.

Sell high on Hudler and buy low on Sharp and then if Sharp isn't working out, trade him at the following deadline.
