So I still don't see the point. As others have pointed out, Skinner is one hit away from retirement, and we pick up two large contracts, give up youth/picks, and one of our only top 9 forwards with size. Skinner is also small. Makes zero sense to me.

I think we will agree to disagree here but I for one like the potential of Ward over Hiller. I was not a fan of Hillers play in the second half of the season and not surprised he lost his job to Ramo in round 2. Likely he wouldn't have been the starter at all if Ramo wasn't injured.
I personally think the Skinner stuff is blown out of proportion. He had one bad concussion that put him out a while but many other players have had worse like say Crosby so to say he is one hit away can be stated for a lot of players.
He had a down year last year but is still just 23 and a little over a year older than Granlund who has not come close to the production Skinner has had. Jones is a highly expendable piece on the Flames or better yet moving Raymonds deal makes it even better. Giving up a 2nd would be required since we are getting the best player in the deal.
Skinner is also bigger than Granlund as hockeydb lists him at 5'11 200 with Granlund at the same height but 185
