Glen Sather is undecided about whether he will remain general manager of the Rangers for a 16th year.

A source confirmed to the Daily News on Friday the accuracy of a report that the 71-year-old is considering stepping down from his GM post - though he perhaps would remain in the role of president.

Jeff Gorton, Sather's assistant GM the past four years, would be the obvious choice to succeed him. Gorton previously was the interim GM of the Boston Bruins and is heavily involved in the Rangers' daily operations, particularly on the contract negotiation end.

Sather essentially has a lifetime contract at the Garden. He has been president-GM since June 2000.
