Gyms are pretty unappealing to large retail landlords. They pretty much fit in when the space is undesirable to their traditional tenants. Look where they end up normally, in large, undesirable space that's been poorly received in the market or not leasing well.
It wasn't by choice of Goodlife, it would have been because they're not able to compete for the space. Landlords were bidding on their own leases to stop tenants like gyms getting in there. No landlord in their right mind would want a Gym taking prime retail space with cheap renewal options going into 2090.
