I remember two separate interviews with Ebs (and there are probably more) where he kept referencing their high powered offense, yet were finishing last year after year. I clearly remember one of them being the old After Hours, and Ebs why trying to make sense of how could a team as good as the oilers continually finish last all the time. They believed their own BS.

I love that the media fed their egos, so much hype surrounding a team that hadn't done anything in terms of winning in the NHL. This includes TV shows, TSN riding the Eberle train after the world juniors, and multiple first overall picks. To top it all off Eberle scores a great goal on Ian White in his first game, but as far as I'm concerned they bought into what the media was saying and failed to grow as players. Year after year it was how things were changing and they'll finally be better, but that never came to fruition.
On the flip side of the spectrum, Calgary was always discredited by the media for never playing youth and not having enough youth. Many "analysts" picked them to be last this year because of their youth. Then this season comes along and its Calgary's youth who earned their spots and carried this team to the playoffs.
