Well they are, but if you actually looked at the film from a mens right angle (instead of an anti-feminist angle), The gender roles in the film are really quite misandric.

Essentially the whole film boils down to
Women = Good/Mothers/Builders/Nurturers/Family
Men = Evil/Enslavers/Soldiers...

You get the point.

Even the two male allies the women have are...
Max: Silent, afraid of attachment
Nux: Manchild, likes cars

In fact I'm amazed that it's somehow seen as a "feminist" film. Your average Fast & Furious film has more varied gender roles, and if you want to fight yourself free of the mother-myth, this movie will do you no favours.

Even the female gang is portrayed as family oriented, compared to the more military-like male gangs.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film. I don't see it as the masterpiece many are seeing, but it was a solid 4/5 and quite entertaining.

Personally my main gripes were the mediocre camera work and boring soundscape and soundtrack. Why build the ultimate rock truck with jungle drums and a crazy electric guitar stage, and then build the soundtrack around violin+horn mats? Plus the vehicles look great but they sounded way too much like each other.

I'm also not at all excited to see the copycats... Because what we need most in Hollywood is even MORE caricaturized setups and less attention to dialogue...
