It is silly because Conroy never says there was a trade. He just says that Jay had stepped away from the table and he got a call about trading down, which he assumed they were not going to do because of the "ledges". To me he was saying that he could have probably assumed that they were not going to move down and say no, but was waiting for Jay because he had the final say.
Conroy didn't assume, and he didn't make an ass of himself.
You, however, are making assumptions.
