Does it change at all if the elevator is partially full or almost full? You expect everyone on that elevator to wait for someone? And frankly, in busier offices, there's always going to be one more person. We waited for that guy, but now there's a chick a couple seconds away from getting on. Well, now she's on, but there's that guy.

Why is it self centred to say, "you didn't make it?" It's not like I spit in the guys face, kicked him in the nuts and pushed him off the elevator. There are other elevators and this one will come back down too. You can wait. And no, I don't care if someone doesn't hold the elevator for me. Such is life.
Obviously certain situations call for different responses. In places like an office tower at 8 am, I wouldn't expect anyone to go out of their way to hold the door for the flood of people straggling in, but obviously that is situation dependent.

My comment was more relevant to the situation that I mentioned in an apartment building where elevators are never full. Also, and more importantly, related to those in the forum who said they never hold the door open. That is a pretty dick move. EDIT: Also it seems people are viewing the situation in different circumstances. Other strangers in the elevator, let it be. Only you, im sure you can wait.
