Stand facing the back. Make small talk. Or don't. Fart. Or not. I really don't care.
But folks who can't sort out the simple task of determining precedence in a elevator should be forced to take the stairs.
In office buildings, its like a four-way stop. If you were there first, you go first. This is especially important if the elevator or the lobby is crowded. You're closest to the door? Great. Get in, get to the back, and do it quickly to let everyone else on.
If its not clear who got there first - ladies go first. Its the same thing as two vehicles arriving at a four way stop at the same time, the vehicle on the right has right of way. If a man and woman arrive at an elevator at the same time, she goes first. Woman = vehicle on the right.
Clearly disabled folks, the elderly, and those laden down with packages are like emergency vehicles. They always have right of way.
