If he is, it is only because the Canucks don't want to look like they gave up a 2nd round pick for nothing. Baertschi's game just doesn't translate to the NHL. He's small and plays smaller. He doesn't have a great shot and he refuses to go to the areas where he can score. He's a decent skater, but doesn't have that top end speed to make a difference. He's going to have to ride shot gun on a line that will allow him to play his game along the half wall because he's completely ineffective in every other aspect of the game. I'll go way out on the ledge and say "The Swiss Miss" will be out of the NHL by Christmas. The Canucks will give him every opportunity to be successful but he will not hit expectations and be waived before the year is out. No one will pick him up and Baertschi's fragile ego will be done.

I am pulling for Janko, but we have to look at this without Flames blinders on.
Jankowski is twice the hockey player Baertschi is. Jankowski plays in parts of the ice Sven doesn't even know exist. Jankowski will carve out a position in the NHL because he will play in what ever role he asked to play. Mark can play on several lines and be successful. Baertschi can play in only one role, and he isn't even very good at it. I think you need to spend some time watching these two players to get a true appreciation of what they are. We should be excited about Jankowski because of the character and positional flexibility he brings to the table. These are the exact reasons why Baertschi was traded to one of our chief rivals. That is what you would see if you took your own blinders off.
