To be fair that 2nd rounder was moved to get rid of Primeau's cap hit, it wasn't traded for Stralman per se.
Also Stralman apparently had serious health issues that were holding him back. Until the Rangers finally diagnosed it properly, he was struggling to stay on the ice.
