You can't measure a defenseman's worth by points. Boychuk is more than capable in his own end whereas Phaneuf is plain bad in that regard by top pairing standards. Dion's also not nearly as good offensively as he used to be. His current levels of production are not enough to make up the huge defensive gap between the two IMO.
If Phaneuf made $5m per year, he'd be an attractive trade asset. As it stands, the leafs will be LUCKY to get a Bouwmeester type return for him, unless they retain some serious coin.

I;m not. Dion has clearly had the better career and he's younger. Boychuk never even had a top-pairing role until this year. I'd like to see him after facing the NHL's top competition like Dion does.
