Well that surprises me. Not saying you're wrong however. It's been a while since I worked in the industry. There are definitely a lot of cheapskates, as evidenced by this thread. There's also a lot of above average earners (or regular earners who are good tippers) who drag up the average too. I think that's the biggest problem. There are a lot of people who think 5% to nothing is completely acceptable. So you may get stiffed a few times waiting for a big 25-30% tip on a decent bill to even you out.

Not sure the article is pre oil bust, but it probably doesn't matter. Survery's take a while to put together anyway.

I do know I heard tipping was trending towards 18%. Forget exactly where I heard that, but as several other people posted the same thing, I guess it's one of those things in the consciousness.



The Sun Reader comments are of course expected and hilarious (in a sad way).
