I didn't see much of the Eastern teams this year...going off of last year, though, Leddy often turned over the puck in his own end...very much an OFFENSIVE D-Man...no PK time...needed a stay at home partner. Needed to spot his shifts against lower line guys.
Perhaps Leddy will develop his defensive game, but at $5.5million, he just was NOT going to fit under the cap. Oduya was more responsible in the D-end, was better at clearing rebounds, cheaper (at $3.3million), could match up against 1st line opposition, and was safer with the puck in the face of a determined forecheck.
