Some guidance re. ratings
Just going to provide some context here. I've seen and heard GMs talk about how their player should have a rating just as good or better, based on the fact they had an NHL season just as good or better this season compared to last.
This is not always going to be true.
Remember, the change we are making this season is to put way more focus on the most recent NHL season. In the past, the past NHL season was the most important but we also gave consideration to the 3 year performance.
So if you had a player that had
- A great season in 2012
- A good season in 2013
- An OK season in 2014
They would have received a pretty good rating on the strength of 3 year performance, even as production was dipping.
Now let's say that player has another OK season in 2015 - same as 2014.
They may see a ratings drop because their best season was now 4 seasons ago, and we are providing less weighting to the 3 year performance overall.
All of this is just to say - that it isn't the case that if a player's production was the same as last season - that it guarantees that their rating will be just as good - not if that rating had been given because of seasons before.
Make sense?
