What position is Calgary the weakest in right now?
Do we have lots of cap space for the next 2 years?
If so, my hope would be we sign the most expensive UFA for that position for 1-2 years, with a high salary to compensate for short term, and trade bait him at the deadline if we aren't playing well.
Heck, sign a weaker player, but still consistent, to a short term (1-2 year) but $$$$ contract and then use him as trade bait, or if we are playing well, his contract comes off the books when cap issues become an issue for us... if my understanding is correct.
This is probably much easier said then done.
