Drouin wasn't even in the conversation until the 12-13 season. plenty of scouts had Monahan just behind MacKinnon and Jones.
Adam Mattson of ISS said he loved Mackinnion but wouldn't be shocked at all if Monahan turned out to be the best player in the draft.

Yep. Druin was a late riser for sure as he came on strong during his draft year. I remember some in the media just prior to the draft arguing he may be a better prospect than MacKinnon which I always thought was pretty far fetched.
