- New President, GM, and organizational focus on youth
- Good drafting, and picks that can actually step into the league play
- Great coaching.
These are all far greater factors to the team success and they were all out of Iginla's sphere of influence.

I have to disagree with you on that.
I'm no hater or apologist, I'm just a Flames fan and I will always be grateful to Iggy for everything he did for us, but it was time to move on for everyone.
Iggy became bigger than the club, and I'll agree that he did his best in all aspects of his time here, but that doesnt mean that his best was good enough. And not even necessarily through any fault of his own.
You think Giordano is doing now exactly what he was doing then? Again, I disagree.
Iginla by all accounts was incredibly well respected as a teammate, an athlete and as a leader, but he was also a very passive leader. He lead by example.
Conversely Giordano is a very active leader, do you believe he was exactly as active a leader then when it was Iggy's team as he is now that its his team? I dont believe so. I believe that he stepped up his game in all areas.
I dont mean to throw Iggy under the bus, but during his time, everyone pandered to him and what he needed and as Iginla went so did the team. He didnt ask for that, it just naturally evolved over time. But look at what we have now, we have a team that is greater than the sum of its parts. Instead of everything flowing through Iggy everyone has grabbed an oar and begun rowing.
It was time for the Calgary Flames and Jarome Iginla to mutually, and amicably, part ways.
This is the part of the post where I say something crazy:
Jarome Iginla has been off this team for 2 full seasons and they've been the most entertaining two seasons in this team's history with the exception of the 2004 Cup Run and the team, in its current composition, promises to deliver more than any team Iginla was ever a part of and, with the exception of 2004, already has.
And, if that wasnt crazy enough here I go for round 2: I'm scared that if we bring him back we may lose the magic.
