IF we swing for one of the 2nd tier defencemen with our 15th or trade down, i would LOVE Brandon Carlo. 6'5, 200lbs, skates very good, plays a nhl type game already, projects to be a very physical stay at home defenseman with some hands, hard shot and above average skating ability for his size. He can skate the puck up and has offensive instincts but prefers to hold the fort down. He has the highest ceiling of any defenceman who will be going outside the top 10 in my opinion.
The reason I say there is value in taking a forward in the 1st round is you wont find Konecny, Crouse, Gruyanov, Rantanen, Meier, Svechnikov eype players in the 2nd round like you may at 15th overall. But you could argue there are some 2nd round defencemen who arent far off Roy/Chabot/Zboril.
I think we should push hard for a power forward.
Crouse should be there when we pick! Amazing since he was ranked 5th overall by a bunch of NHL scouts in the preseason. Not to mention he has fantastic chemistry with Sam Bennett. Crouse plays like a bit smaller version of hunter smith, with more skill and speed, better hands and offensive instincts.

Love the way you think! At our pick with what will be available we will be picking a forward. The BPA! Who that is? lots of choices.
Carlo is a reach at 15. I don't want to trade down to get him. I want our 15 overall forward and package some of our picks in the second and third round to get this kid.
Yet I think Carlo will move up in the draft cause of his size. If I want him trust me other teams want him too. His upside is huge! He reminds me of Shea Weber! Not so much playing style, but his draft year. We picked Phaneuf, but Weber went in the second round and is a much better player now. That type of upside for this kid. If he doesn't pan out he is on our third paring. First pairing is a reach but possible. Second pairing huge dman that clears the net, that can skate and pass.
Not a sexy pick. You win games by having guys like this on your team.
