This is an extension and not a bidding war between multiple teams, so I think the Flames have the upper hand in the negotiations for the time being.
I think a 5 year, $35M extension sounds like a good deal for both sides.

PK Subban.....and although he is 5 years younger, the situation is similar in that Montreal was buying UFA years which the flames are essentially doing with an extension.
PK is getting 9 AAV for 8....so 8.5 for 5 seems right in line.
Without question he will exceed 7 a year, and he should. That's why 42.5 over 5 is actually a pretty good deal for both sides....its not only fair it will make him the highest paid player in team history.
