If you're going to trade Backlund, you do it at the draft or before the season starts at some point. If the Flames are doing great with Backlund on the team, why would you trade him and disrupt chemistry especially if you're in a playoff spot. If the team is well out of the playoffs, I could see them moving players though.
I do think that Backlund will be dealt at the draft either for a young defensemen like Gelinas or packaged with a pick/picks to move up.
