Ok sure, and that's good asset management but why would a team then trade an asset for Hiller if they could sign Niemi for dollars only?
Then there's the Ottawa situation. Nobody is forced to pay a high price since there's another option in Anderson or maybe Lehner.
Not getting all the love for Ramo quite frankly. His numbers over the entire season are serviceable at best, and if you re-sign him you probably have to commit serious term to a guy who isn't really a No. 1 goalie.
On the other hand you can keep Hiller for one more year and see what you have in Ortio. If he shows himself as a starter you can let Hiller walk.
It's like deferring the Ortio situation another year. If you commit term to Ramo now it'd be an unmoveable contract if Ortio pans out.
