Trip To Yankee Stadium
Just got back a few days ago from a trip to New York, got the absolute pleasure of watching the Yankees slap the Blue Jays around for 3 games in a disgusting fashion. However, Yankee Stadium itself was worth the price of admission.
-The Jays did decide to play some of the worst ball of the year. I saw in total the Jays score 2 runs as I was not around to see Glaus's 2 run HR in the 9th when they we're down 8-0 in the second game as I decided to leave in the 8th. The one highlight was Ryan Roberts first major league hit which also was his first major league home run. Also a Johny Mac RBI single, which turned out to be the 15 minutes which the Jays had the lead in the entire series.
-Jays players we're pretty nice in autographs and talking to fans. Your not allowed to get anywhere close to the dugouts during BP however a few pitchers warming up in the outfield we're nice enough to come chat. Got to get autographs from BJ Ryan and Scott Downs.
- First game had amazing tickets about 15 rows up from first base. Went early that day with buddys to go and check out monument park. A must see for any baseball fans out there, amazing to see how many great players the Yankees have produced
- Everyone is aware the Yankees have one of the best history's in all of sports, but god knows they won't let you forget. Every add on the big screen or t-shirt it seems has to remind people that the Yankees have a crap load of rings.
- It doesen't take long before you dislike Yankee fans either. In the first game, A-rod is met with cheers all around when he comes up to bat. After he grounds out, the fans are calling for his head. Jeter may go 0-5 and A-rod could go 4-5, Jeter won't hear a single boo and A-rod will get rained on for his one groundout. A lot of Yankee fans also seem to be a little narrow minded when it comes to players outside of New York. Alex Rios was met with a collective "who is this guy, send him back to the minors."
- As a whole however, the fans really do add to the experince. The place is never quiet, every at bat is made exciting. You can see how playing in front of 50 thousand plus screaming fans a night could really help a team in comparison to just over 20. The atmosphere is all it is built up to be
- As for taunting, Yankee fans we're not that bad at all. I think it has to do with the fact they're use to thousands of Red Sox fans at some games, and a few hundred Blue Jays fans are just a small dosage of that. There was a few french people are "fags" chants in the bleachers for the 2nd and 3rd games.
- Overall the experince of seeing a game there did live up to all the hype. The atmosphere, the history, and just the stadium itself is something every baseball fan should experince.
- I no longer will complain about the price's at the dome. A bottle of beer was $9.75 there, enough said.
