I don't know for sure, but in Canada on average based on annual numbers, there are about 10 suicides a day. The U.S. probably has ten times that number just based on population.
I used to watch a lot of American news out of cities like Chicago, Detroit and Seattle, and can't recall them ever reporting suicides.
Sometimes suicides are reported in Canada though, particularly when they are in First Nations communities, likely due to the ratio of suicides in those communities. Still, it makes one wonder if reporting it does more harm if you believe that reporting it actually causes copy cats. Then again, if you didn't report it, it would likely be interpreted as ignoring the issue.
