I was joking around with my wife saying that if we had a girl, we should name her Daenerys Targaryen. She is really gullible and still thinks I was serious.

Kind of OT, but is it culturally inappropriate for someone to name their child something that is not usually found in their culture? My wife has a Japanese name for a girl that she likes. Her sister-in-law is from Japan and seems to thinks it's a great idea, but other people that I have talked to said it is inappropriate or too weird.
