You need guys like him on the team. The game is faster. The game has opened up so much more for the skilled players. The 'goons' are essentially gone. You still need the meat on the team - especially in the playoffs, and especially in playoff series against bigger teams.

Bollig, Ferland, Engelland and even Colborne have all had moments when their size and grit have made an important difference. I am thankful that the Flames have guys like Carrol, Arnold, Smith, Kanzig, and more coming up the pipeline. Guys that can actually play the game. They won't all make it, but I would bet a couple at least manage to play themselves onto the team over the next few seasons, and they will definitely help this team greatly. Hopefully Jankowski can continue his development and become another large sized player with some skill out there as well.

Hopefully Bouma and Ferland are both back in time for an Anaheim game - they can all add some size and grit to different lines and give the Flames a different look. Also, can you imagine a Ferland - Bouma - Bollig line coming over the boards? If you are on the ice for the other team, you just know you are not going to have an easy shift.

Bollig has definitely paid off in these playoffs.
