Knowing Americans like I do, I doubt very seriously if all of the artists participating in the contest were aware of the significance of their exercise. $10K is a lot of money and I imagine several artists who needed it were participating without knowing the risk.
I agree with those who said the event was real life trolling and I agree that they have every right to do that.
Doesn't make it ethical.

Wow, that's a completely bizarre statement, maybe we should all just stay at home because there's a potential for violence.
If the aim of terrorism is to create change through terror, and forcing people to give up their rights and freedoms then you're mind set is that these thugs have already won.
I'm not a big fan of these people, but the prospect of violence in their home country by what is a foreign terrorist threat shouldn't even come into the calculation.
This wasn't some sacrifice play by this group to put on the cartoon contest to draw terrorists out or to sacrifice themselves.
