We really could be the energy-focused 'Silicon Valley', and it's staring us right in the face.

Example: I believe the Alberta government should work with Tesla to implement charging stations across Alberta, and be a leader in investing in electric technologies that can benefit the everyday Albertan through increasingly practical means. The government doesn't have to be an evil entity that opposes change and bold ideas. In fact, if we elect the right leaders and get our long-term priorities in line, the government can be the total opposite.
I was kinda joking, unfortunately I know allot of people who could do allot of good for the government if they were allowed to go there and work. But unfortunately there are allot of people vary invested in stopping those from doing anything positive with government positions,

Agreed I was not really talking about burying O&G investment. Just saying that adding refining to the economy seems to viewed as diversification by some in Alberta.

Like I said I really believe the future is in improving the way we get energy from point a to point b, and how we store energy. The biggest problem with wind/solar are that you can't control when, where or how much power you are collecting. Better Power Lines, and ways to store energy to be released in a controlled fashion are vital to moving away from oil and gas. It would save post fossil fuel Alberta from some pretty rough years if Alberta based companies controlled some of that tech.

You never hear about Protecting Lithium as a resource, Aluminum Batteries, Blue Diesel or Pneumatic energy storage coming out of Alberta. (just a few examples where people are trying to effect change in the energy market right now) Its a really good question why that is not a focus for economic growth in Alberta long term.
