As a former crappy amateur boxer I got tagged a lot, never completely knocked out but I definitely had a temporary loss of brain function a few times. As far as I know I never had a concussion symptom afterwards though.

I think you underestimate concussions. Doesn't matter if it was a very small concussion, it's thought that it takes at LEAST 1-2 weeks for ATP stores to recover. That, and "temporary loss of brain function" would be more than a mild concussion.
Suffice to say that if he plays Sunday it's not a concussion.
