Relating that back to cars, it's kind of why I feel sorry for the kids who's parents bought them a BMW or Range Rover or whatever in high school. Talk about taking away all motivation to improve their situation in life.
100% this.

I could be a billionaire, and my daily driver would still be a VW GTI. There isn't one car on the road that combines all the elements better. Quality, versatility, fun factor, sleeper status, tunabilty. When I was with VW, we had some 7 figure customers that bought them as their daily driver, and had their 911/Boxster/Vette.... whatever, for weekends only.

There are amazing cars out there that can be had well under 30k. A lot of guys buy a BMW because it's a BMW, not because they like the car. I had one, and loved the drive, but I still felt totally out of place in it. Once I went back to a GTI, it felt like an old pair of comfortable shoes to me. The car kinda defines my attitude towards cars. Under the radar, affordable, fun as hell, built to last. And there is absolutely no shame in driving the car. TBH, even if there was, I wouldn't care.
