You have a group of actual protestors, and then you have idiots who are using the chaos to do stupid crap. This is not limited to these "thugs." This happens a lot when you get a large group of people together and add any kind of fuel. For this group it's anger--for dumb college kids it's alcohol and stupidity.
This doesn't change the fact that a man was killed by the police and the police are doing their damnedest to resist telling the public how a man ended up with a severed spine.
Was he a criminal? Sure.
Did he deserve to die? Probably not.
The rioting is unfortunate, but what incited this riot is a theme that is all too prevalent in the US right now. The police in this country need some oversight, and fast. Then perhaps communities will feel like the police are their protectors--not their opponents.
