Why would anyone put that massive breadbox thing you have and use up so much counter space? People are weird.
Before we removed the breadbox/appliance garage/whateveryoucallit, there wasn't even enough room to put a dish rack beside the sink.

The craziest thing of all, was that there was a live electrical plug buried behind that thing.

I also don't know why in a kitchen redone likely sometime in the 90s (house was built in 1981), why a dishwasher wasn't added itno the kitchen somehow. Somewhere along the line, a previous owner had installed the roughins for the dishwasher (hot water line take off valve, drain nipple, electrical connection), but had never actually installed one. About a week after taking possession, we realized that not having a dishwasher was never going to work, and I removed a 24" wide cabinet and installed a dishwasher in it's place.
