Uh, easy. The Ducks have been really good for a long time, and the Flames have not been very good over that time (especially since 2009) and have been on the decline until this season. Plus, they are also an excellent home team, making the odds of winning less for every single visiting team, not just the Flames. You could argue that the previous group had difficulty winning against them purely due to being a poor match, but since the entire group has changed it has nothing to do with the Flames as a team now.
It's a small sample size, and just because something that occurred in the past is overwhelmingly in favor of one side, it's statistically improbable, and it does not change the odds of winning an individual game, which is most often 50/50, but closely aligns with winning percentage. While past performance is an interesting thing to look at and has some predictive power, it does not make a perfect predictor of future events. There's no reason to believe that the inability to win crucial games remains endemic to an organization longer than within a season or two of play.
