I think from a development standpoint, this is probably a good thing for Sven. He gets to experience firsthand what compete is. This is the most glaring deficiency in his game. I am sure he will come out and skate pretty hard for the first bit. Will be interesting how he continues the effort even if he remains untouched.
Unless he drastically increases his compete level, I just don't think he will be anything more than one of those depth wingers that sometimes really makes you happy, and other times makes you wish you can catapult him off the team. For tomorrow's game, I think he will at best just be a sub-plot for the media to talk about and to keep an eye on, and not someone who is going to make a difference out there (at least not positively for the Canucks - might very well be positive for the Flames). I bet when IF he does start doing something out there, Flames start playing him physically and he gets off his game right away, and even takes a selfish retaliatory penalty.
