Ontario's charities complained about their 50/50 rules.

Quote:
While other provinces (except for Quebec, which prohibits lotteries in arenas) use electronic devices to sell tickets, Ontario only allows old-school rip-and-tear tickets.

Electronic ticket selling means more tickets can be sold – and faster. As Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment Team-up Foundation executive director Mike Bartlett points out, Ontario’s method places a limit on how many tickets can be bought. “We must pre-print tickets, with a specific date and a specific quantity tied to our licence for that particular night. And once we’re out, we’re out.”

Perhaps that has changed now.

But if that is still the case, seeing how fast the 50/50s could be sold last night at the dome (I missed by about 100,000 numbers), I can't conceive hand ripping a ticket could hold a candle to the current system.
