It's all relative I guess. I lived in that area from the time I was a small child until I was a young adult and I think the people there seem to identify with Western Canada more so. Winnipeg is "the big city" for the townies in that region, and people are more inclined to go on vacations or migrate in that direction. For example, to drive to Calgary from Dryden takes about 15 hours. To drive to Toronto from Dryden takes about 18 hours.

Agreed. I have seen my fair share of anti-francophone sentiment in Western Canada, but the Burrows hate has nothing to do with that. Being a francophone might not give you the benefit of the doubt in Western Canada, but if you are a good person, no one will hold it against you.
I believe it was a francophone NHL referee that in fact called out Burrows before.
