The low irons are longer is the reason I've always heard. Drivers are probably the hardest to hit for me. (longest shafts) Shorter shafts are easier to control.

Your swing speed is probably why the lows are hitting the same distance as your higher ones. Probably need to speed your swing up.

At the store the sales person made sure my swing clocked high enough for regular stiffed shafts.

Maybe more flexibale ones would help you. The extra flex must speed the swing.

I dont think the sweet spots on low irons are any smaller.
