I still don't get how it is so morally horrific to be hoping he doesn't play again. The guy has made millions upon millions, will lead a life far more extravagant that 99% of us here, even if he and his family never earn another dime.
His retirement would give opportunity to other struggling players in the AHL or ECHL to get a shot at a better life. All while getting rid of a notoriously dirty player who has injured others. Win/Win/Win situation if you ask me.
You're all right, it is just a game, and there are thousands of more deserving players that would love for a chance to play it for living.
