These series has shown that the Jays are still a large step away from the Yankees and Bosox. Time to start looking ahead to next season...and to me what this season has shown is the value of a deep rotation. At the beginning of the season we also said that Halliday-Burnett-Chachin-Lilly-Towers would be solid if things went right.
Well...
Doc's been doc. No prob there
Burnett has been injured and then largely inadequate since he's been back. That contract could really be an albatross on this organization for the next 5 years.
Chachin will end up missing about half the season
Towers was so bad he couldn't stay in the majors
Lilly has probably met expectations overall.
Bottom line is you can trot out guys like Markham and Janssen in two spots in your rotation and expect to compete. This was the main reason why the Jays couldn't knock off an extended hot streak....just enough not quality starters.
One more year JP is what you get from me to make this team a contendor.
