THRASHERS AND DEVILS SWING A LARGE DEAL
The Atlanta Thrashers and New Jersey Devils swung a 4 player deal Wednesday afternoon that saw the Thrashers obtain superstar defenseman Zdeno Chara. The 29 year old Chara is a force on the blue line.
"Chara is a player we were looking to obtain and he will anchor our blueline for the 2006-2007 season. We are extremely pleased to have Zdeno in a Thrasher uniform". - GM Neil Sutaria
To obtain Chara, the Thrashers had to give up some young talent. RW Corey Perry, and ECHL center Peter Mueller are going to the Devils along with D Steve Poapst and a 1st round draft pick (previously obtained by Columbus). In exchange the Thrashers also recieve a 4th round pick (Quebec) in the 2007 draft.
"Corey Perry is going to be an excellent player for the Devils' organization but to obtain a player of Zdeno's calibre you have to give up a good player or two. We are very excited about the progress we made in the trade today."
