In sikhisim there is a bride groom relationship between god and his subjects. Subjects = bride, god=groom.

In practicality there is a difference between male and female, but that does not lead to inequality, hence why Guru Gobind Singh gave women Kaur, an identity to preserve beyond marriage and dismiss male dominance.
The taking on of the name is a western manifestation, it happens now. But according to gurmat there are no last names.
