As I am given to understand, the proprietary patent on the 'bowling ball' mattress or the 'pocket coil' has expired. As a result, nearly every mattress maker now has at least one 'pocket coil' mattress in their line-up. The idea is that each spring (or 'coil') is separate from the others as opposed to being linked together with other wires to create a long string of springs. So with the springs isolated, motion on one spring does not transfer to the other springs in other parts of the mattress as it does in traditional 'linked spring' mattresses.
So I guess, if you are looking for the 'bowling ball' mattress, you have to look for 'pocket coil' in order to get that type of motion isolating effect.
That said, as a new owner of a latex/memory foam... I can only recommend latex/memory foam.
