My Grandpa grew up with Gordie Howe and one day he was over for supper at their house. I was young, 4 or 5, so it would have been around 87. My Grandpa introduced him as Mr. Hockey, the greatest hockey player to ever live.. to which I replied, "Nuh uh, Lanny McDonald is the greatest hockey player of all time!!!"
I remember my Grandpa got this look of death on his face but Gordie just laughed, shook my hand and said something like "Oh Really, then where's his Cup?"
Soon Gordie... Soon..
Then again in the 90's Lanny was in town for some type of hockey conference here, Gordie was also there and invited my Grandpa. My Grandpa took a picture of me in my Flames jersey with him and Gordie flagged down Lanny to get him to sign it for me. Pretty sure I remember my Grandpa saying they had a good laugh over the story as well. Still have the picture, I think I have posted it on here before. Unfortunately the marker is starting to fade, not sure what to do about that.
