I would say the same thing about comedy, at least when it comes to best actor/actress categories. Comedy actors just tend not to get the respect they deserve.
I think good comedy is harder to pull off than it gets credit for. Very few "serious" actors can pull it off very well, yet quite often you see comedic actors branch out to play serious rolls and do quite well (Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Jamie Foxx, Steve Martin, Jim Carey, Alan Arkin, Bill Murray, Robert Downey Jr. just to name a few, some also might say Jonah Hill and Will Ferrell). How many actors that specialize in dramatic rolls can branch out and be funny? I'm thinking Robert DeNiro, maybe Alec Baldwin ... who else? I don't think there are as many that can pull it off.

So true. I can stand show business award shows. Don't get me wrong, I like music and films, but they act like they are saving the world. I haven't watched one in years.
