PHOENIX -- This morning Phoenix Coyotes GM Eric Olson held a press conference to announce the acquisition of Chris Phillips and Matt Johnson. "Chris Phillips is a budding star defenseman with excellent offensive and defensive potential," said Olson this morning, "He had 52 points last season, which you all know is thoroughly impressive."

When questioned about the acqusition of Matt Johnson the Phoenix GM replied, "We have a lot of young kids on our team and it is a good idea to have someone available to protect them if they need it. He will be excellent at keeping some of the... more physical teams in check."

The acquisition came at a high cost to the Desert Dogs, giving up stay-at-home defenseman Radoslav Suchy and young prospects Jakub Koreis and Josef Balej. The Coyotes GM had this to say on that matter, "Suchy is a good defensive D man but his offensive potential is nearly non-existent. Phillips is as good as him on D and significantly better on offense. Koreis and Balej are both excellent prospects and I had a hard time shipping them out but in order to get better you have to compromise. I wish Jakub and Josef the best in Florida."

Notes: Daniel Paille, bright young forward prospect for the Yotes has scored 2 goals in his first 2 games with the Utah Grizzlies (Coyotes farm team).
