you'd think given that "lottery protecting" a traded pick is an actual thing, that GMs making trades, especially earlier in the year wouldn't get cocky/confident in their current position in the standings when trading the asset, and would use this tool to protect themselves.
Pretty sure the pens considered the asset being traded to be a 23-30th pick in the first round, and that was the asset value the trade was built upon, not potentially the 14th (who knows #1 lottery pick)...
