Falling in rankings as a result of continued viewing of these players (and, during a draft year, the closest scrutiny you're going to get) means you have suddenly stopped progressing relative to your peers, which is a bad sign. Or even worse, that you've stopped progressing at all. Guys can look good at 16 relative to their age group but at 17, when more players are filling out into their eventual frames, if you haven't at least kept up, I'd be staying away.

Yeah, I would stay away from a player falling like that unless it is a really late 1st or early 2nd rounder. Since prospects are all about the future, trajectory is a very important thing to consider. Just like when a player that was previously unnoticed works their way to being considered in the top 30-45 by a team, I think it is justified to draft them even higher than that (and then watch the fans freak out because it is off TSNs board and Duthie will make fun of it).
